Laser coagulation and laser eye treatment

Request a consultation

The package combines a comprehensive vision check with laser treatment prescribed by the ophthalmologist after assessing the eyes. The method and scope of treatment depend on the diagnosis, where the changes are and the results of the examination. Retinal coagulation, YAG procedures and selective laser trabeculoplasty serve different purposes; the doctor determines the specific procedure. The procedures listed are alternative package options, not procedures performed together.

When it's recommended

  • Retinal changes for which the ophthalmologist recommends laser treatment.
  • A laser procedure needs discussing as part of treating diabetic retinopathy or other retinal disease.
  • After cataract surgery, clouding of the posterior capsule has been diagnosed and YAG capsulotomy recommended.
  • The doctor prescribes a laser procedure as part of glaucoma treatment.
  • An additional or repeat session is needed under an existing plan.

Treatment stages

  1. Comprehensive diagnostics

Checks of visual acuity and refraction, intraocular pressure, a slit-lamp exam and a fundus exam under the base program protocol. The ophthalmologist explains the results.

  2. Choosing the method

The doctor determines the indications, scope and number of sessions, and discusses the expected effect, risks and estimate. Further tests are ordered if needed.

  3. Laser treatment

The agreed procedure is carried out. Whether it can be done on the day of diagnostics depends on the clinical situation and the schedule.

  4. Recommendations and follow-up

The doctor sets the date of the follow-up exam and whether a repeat procedure is needed. A single session is not always a full course of treatment.

Benefits

  • Diagnostics before choosing a procedure

The doctor compares your complaints with the findings and decides whether treatment is appropriate and whether more tests are needed.

  • A clear package composition

The cost of the basic examination and of the chosen procedure is shown separately. The total is calculated for one session on one eye.

  • A follow-up plan

After treatment the patient receives advice on regimen, the follow-up exam and any next steps.

Timeline

Comprehensive diagnostics usually takes 1.5–2 hours; the clinic sets extra time for the procedure depending on the method. Bring previous reports and a list of medicines. After pupil dilation or treatment, do not plan to drive until your vision is clear and the doctor allows it. Laser treatment has specific indications and limits: it does not guarantee restoring vision lost to irreversible changes in the retina or optic nerve.

What's included in the price

The price includes comprehensive vision diagnostics under the clinic's base program, a consultation on the results and one session of the chosen laser treatment on one eye; after the procedure the doctor gives recommendations for next steps. Standard comprehensive diagnostics at 1,500 UAH is added to every item; at the agreed 1,300 UAH rate each package is 200 UAH cheaper (range 5,300–13,300 UAH). If both eyes need treatment, the estimate is calculated by the number of procedures, and diagnostics within one examination is counted once: for example, peripheral coagulation of both eyes with initial diagnostics is 6,000 × 2 + 1,500 = 13,500 UAH. If diagnostics has already been done and the doctor does not order it again, its cost is not added a second time. OCT (1,200 UAH for both eyes) and other tests beyond basic diagnostics, medicines for home use and separate follow-up exams are not included automatically.

Additional services

  • How to read the list of laser procedures

Peripheral, panretinal and macular coagulation are applied to different areas of the retina and for different indications; some conditions may need several sessions or laser treatment combined with other methods. The YAG group covers several separate procedures: posterior capsulotomy may be prescribed when the capsule clouds after lens replacement, while other YAG procedures have their own indications, and the price applies to the one procedure prescribed. Selective laser trabeculoplasty is a separate treatment option for open-angle glaucoma, and pressure monitoring and follow-up remain necessary after it. Transscleral treatment has its own rate, and the clinic states its type and purpose in the individual plan before it is carried out. A price "per session" covers one agreed scope of treatment on one eye, and a course can consist of several sessions.

  • Example of a calculation

A first session at 6,000 UAH with diagnostics at 1,500 UAH costs 7,500 UAH. If the doctor later prescribes a repeat session at 4,000 UAH without repeating comprehensive diagnostics, the two stages come to 11,500 UAH, not counting other prescribed services. The methods are not interchangeable: the diagnosis and the medical indications come first, and then the matching package is agreed.

Common questions

Is OCT included in the package?
The standard package consists of basic diagnostics and the procedure. If the doctor orders a separate OCT, it is added to the estimate: the agreed rate for both eyes is 1,200 UAH.
Can I choose a procedure just by its name or price?
The methods are not interchangeable. The diagnosis and medical indications come first, and then the matching package is agreed.
