Orthokeratology: Paragon / MoonLens
Request a consultationOrthokeratology is a method of correcting vision with special rigid gas-permeable lenses that are put in at bedtime and removed in the morning. They temporarily change the shape of the corneal surface, so by day you can see without glasses or day contact lenses. The effect is maintained by wearing them regularly on the prescribed schedule. The center fits Paragon CRT and MoonLens, including versions for myopia with astigmatism. The type and parameters of the lenses are set from diagnostics, corneal topography and an assessment of how the lens sits.
When it's recommended
- Myopia, or myopia with astigmatism, within what the chosen lens can handle.
- An adult, teenager or child finds glasses or day contact lenses inconvenient.
- An active lifestyle, work or sport prompts a different kind of correction.
- The patient is not planning laser correction and is ready to follow the wearing schedule, hygiene and regular check-ups.
Treatment stages
Diagnostics
Refraction and visual acuity, corneal shape, examination of the ocular surface and an assessment of whether night wear is possible.
Choice and trial fitting
Calculation of parameters, a check of lens fit and, if needed, refining the design or a custom order.
Training
Hands-on training in inserting, removing, cleaning and storing the lenses.
Checking the result
Checks of visual acuity, lens centration and the state of the cornea after wear begins, then regular exams on an individual schedule.
Benefits
Vision without day lenses
The optical effect remains after the night lenses are removed and can provide the clarity you need through the day. Its strength is assessed during fitting.
Correction without surgery
The changes to the corneal surface are temporary. When you stop wearing the lenses the effect gradually fades and other vision correction is needed.
Individual fitting
Different Paragon and MoonLens designs allow for corneal parameters and astigmatism.
Timeline
Fitting can take several visits, and a custom order needs time for manufacture and delivery; if lenses are not in stock, supply can take up to six weeks. The effect is assessed during adaptation. The clinic sets a schedule of early check-ups and later follow-up; for the first year the clinic's site states regular check-ups roughly every three months.
What's included in the price
The price of the one-year course includes the consultation, fitting and supply of the right number of lenses, medication, initial consumables and follow-up on schedule during the first year, plus training in use and care. Scheduled lens replacement, later purchase of care products and exams outside the program are paid separately. Comprehensive diagnostics after a year of Paragon use is 1,300 UAH; an unscheduled exam or an exam from the second year is 700 UAH. For later years one repeat exam is included in the price of the lenses and the rest are paid. The price of custom-ordered lenses is fixed on full prepayment; otherwise it is confirmed at the time of receipt.

Additional services
Lens options
Paragon CRT: night lenses for correcting myopia; with suitable corneal parameters the doctor may choose the Dual Axis design. MoonLens: an alternative orthokeratology lens system, including MoonLens Astigmatic for suitable cases of myopia with astigmatism. The choice is made after examination and an assessment of fit. Switching systems, for example Paragon to MoonLens, requires a new fitting and fit check: the same myopia values do not mean the designs are interchangeable.
Safety and rules of use
Safe use requires careful hygiene and following the prescribed schedule. If there is pain, redness or worsening vision, remove the lenses and see a doctor. Night orthokeratology lenses are not used with keratoconus. Regular wear, care and follow-up visits are part of the treatment. The doctor looks at more than visual acuity: lens centration, the state of the cornea, tolerance and the stability of the daytime effect. After wear stops the effect gradually fades, so other correction may be needed during the transition.
For children and teenagers
The method is not only for children: lenses are fitted for adults too. Children and teenagers have additional conditions. Whether fitting is possible, and the minimum age, are decided by the doctor after an examination. Fitting and daily use involve a parent or guardian: together with the child they learn to insert, remove and care for the lenses, and they watch hygiene, the condition of the lenses and that check-ups happen on time. For a child with progressing myopia the doctor considers orthokeratology as part of an individual management plan; good clarity by day does not by itself show that myopia progression has stopped.
Common questions
- Who is orthokeratology suitable for?
- For children, teenagers and adults with myopia, or myopia with astigmatism, within what the chosen lens can handle. Children and teenagers have additional conditions, described in the "For children and teenagers" section. Suitability is decided by the doctor after an examination.
- What happens when I stop wearing the lenses?
- The effect of orthokeratology gradually fades. Other correction may be needed during the transition; agree how to stop wearing the lenses, and the next examination, with the doctor.
- Can I switch from Paragon to MoonLens on my own?
- Switching systems requires a new fitting and a fit check. The same myopia values do not mean the designs are interchangeable.
- Is one visit a year enough?
- Early follow-up exams are needed at the start, then planned monitoring. The one-year package includes an agreed schedule, not just handing over the lenses. If you have complaints, come in outside the schedule.
